How to Pick a Stamp Set

When I first started making cards, I bought a stamp set that I still go back to again and again. The Avery Elle Ellie Stamp Set is cute and the elephant can be used for everything – birthdays, thinking of you, thank you, congratulations, baby showers… basically, it’s an all-purpose stamp set and I love it!

Of course, I also have many stamp sets that I have used once and have not picked up since. So… as you start your own cardmaking journey, you will probably want to buy allllll the stamp sets (there are so many options and if you’re like me, you will be sure you need all of them), but if you are still trying cardmaking out to see if it’s for you, or want to be a little more fiscally responsible than I was when I started ?, here are some tips on what to look for in a stamp set:

  • Do you love it?
    • If the answer is yes, then honestly, buy it because you will probably always think of it and what you could have made with it ?.

If you don’t love it, but like it:

  • Can you think of several types of cards you can make with the set (i.e., birthday, thank you, and thinking of you)?
    • Ideally, you should try to imagine three or four different ways you can use the set for cards you are making.
  • Is the set compatible with other stamp sets you already own so that you can mix and match to create different cards?
  • Is the set different and unique?
  • Are there sentiments included in the set?

These are just a few guidelines I try to use to control myself and not end up with too much extra stuff in my craft room. Happy crafting!
