Are you overwhelmed by your Cricut? You are NOT alone!
I bought my Cricut Explore in… (OMG I just searched my Amazon orders…) August 2014! At the time, my now husband had proposed in June, we had picked a date that following April, and I thought, I’m crafty, I bet I can make a lot of my own decorations. I saw posts on Pinterest and noticed that a lot of people were using the Cricut to make decorations. Little did I know what I was getting myself into…
In hindsight, I wish there had been more information and tutorials back then. If I had simply taken some time to learn how to use Cricut Design Space before I tried making things, I would have been a lot better off. Instead, I would try to squeeze in short bursts of creative crafty genius between working full-time, planning a wedding, and trying to be a Pinterest wedding queen. Needless to say, I failed lol. Don’t get me wrong, I ended up with some great personalized items, but it was not worth the headaches.
Fast forward to the last few years and I am now regularly using my 7-year-old machine. He still works great! I still have many fails but I feel much more comfortable using him and have far fewer frustration tears when I am trying something new. So… what helped me? Watching free tutorials from Jennifer Maker, Makers Gonna Learn, and other random YouTube searches as necessary when I am starting a new project. Do not be intimidated by your Cricut or trying out new things – at the end of the day, if I mess up a cut on paper, vinyl, or even faux leather, it is still a lot less than my husband cutting a piece of metal wrong for his hobby ?
